Patient speaking with Dr. Montee

If a minor cut on your hand started to bleed, you would take immediate measures to address the bleeding. The same health care principle should apply to your gums. Despite the myth that bleeding is a natural byproduct of brushing and flossing teeth, the truth is that gums that bleed require an immediate diagnosis that may lead to periodontal treatment. According to a study conducted by the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH), more than half of Americans older than 30 years have suffered from bleeding gums.

Dr. Stan Montee and his team offer the treatment and management of periodontal disease. His vast experience with sedation and laser dentistry helps minimize the level of discomfort, as well as reduce the time you have to spend at the dentist’s office. As Dr. Montee says, “The greatest honor I can achieve is to have you put your trust in me and my abilities. I work towards these goals for you and your family every day.”

Dr. Montee and his team of licensed, experienced, and highly recognized dental professionals are available and ready to help you learn more about periodontal treatment and maintenance.

Symptoms of Periodontal Disease

Dr. Montee educates his patients on what to look for in determining the health of gums and teeth. Healthy gums appear a lighter shade of pink, as well as feel firm to the touch. Your gums should fit snug around the bottom of each tooth.

The following are some periodontal disease symptoms:

  • Swollen gums
  • Gums that bleed profusely
  • Gums feel tender to the slightest touch
  • Discolored gums (purple, bright red, or dark red)
  • Spaces developing between teeth
  • Gums receding from the bottom of teeth

Signs of advanced periodontitis include loose teeth and an extremely painful feeling chewing food. In the worst untreated cases, patients can detect pus between the gums and teeth. Serious cases of periodontitis require the implementation of emergency periodontal treatment protocols.
